Tail-Wagging Farewell: Detection Dog Whisky Retires with a Surprise Party and a Forever Home

After more than six years of dedicated service, Whisky, a remarkable detection dog with the Australian Border Force (ABF), has officially retired — and her send-off was nothing short of magical.
Whisky spent her career at Cairns Airport, using her incredible sense of smell to intercept illegal substances and keep Australia's borders safe. Her sharp instincts and unwavering focus earned her deep respect and affection from her human colleagues.

To honor her remarkable service, Whisky's ABF team organized a heartfelt retirement celebration. The surprise began innocently: Whisky was led out to sniff what she thought was one last routine package. But this time, the "package" triggered an explosion of joy — her coworkers emerged with cheers, treats, and a special retirement cake made just for her.

The heartwarming moment was captured on video, showing Whisky's happy tail wags and the genuine love shared between the dog and the team she served alongside.
But the best part of Whisky's story isn't just the party — it's what comes next. Whisky isn't heading to just any home; she's going to live with Mitchell Coomer, one of her former ABF handlers, and his family.

"We've bought all kinds of toys and everything for her," Coomer shared with NT News. "We're gonna take her to the beach a lot, take her for walks every day, play fetch, all the games — we're so excited to have her."

After years of protecting the country, Whisky's new mission is simple: enjoy life, soak up love, and be the cherished companion she always deserved to be. Her story is a beautiful reminder that heroes — even the four-legged ones — deserve happy endings.
